Road to Recovery

Steven had surgery Tuesday, Jan 27th, to repair his collarbone. It went well, and only took about 30 minutes. Because of all the bone fragments to be put back together, the doctor chose not to use a metal plate on the bone. Instead they got all the pieces back in place, then wrapped them up using soft tissues inside him. They sutured those tissues together, then stitched him back up. He came out of the anesthesia swinging, but calmed down after a few hours and was able to go home the same day. I have some funny stories from the recovery room, but he doesn't remember most of what happened. I was able to figure out why he was so angry at the nurse when i got there. He had a dream/hallucination that the doctors tried to amputate his arm with a chainsaw--poor guy was just fighting back!

The next few days were rough; Steven has had a lot of problems with the meds they gave him. After being nauseous, having chills, body aches and a migraine Friday night, he got completely off the Oxycodone. Now, just 3 days later, he is able to do many things by himself around the house and is feeling so much better! We even went out to lunch yesterday, and took a walk at the park, and a walk around the neighborhood with Rosco. He slept better last night than he has in 3 weeks. Things are looking good!

Glad to hear the surgery turned out OK.
Didn't know you could dream while under anesthesia! When I got my wisdom teeth out, it was more of a dreamless sleep - but I guess that's different.

Glad to hear he's healing ok. I'm sure he'll feel lots better once things start to heal!
